After losing his opening singles match in the Australian Open, Serbian Noyak Djkovic looked to rebound with a doubles victory against Australians John Millman and Nick Kyrgios. However, the Serbs were unable to pull off the upset and fell 3-6, 7-6(1), 6-3. Djkovic was quoted as saying that he found it difficult to settle into the match. "It was really tough," Djkovic said. "I didn't have any chemistry with either of them, so I'm not sure what the problem was." The 26-year-old Djkovic joined up with partner Marcelo Melo for doubles in early January and lost their first four matches together.
Djkovic scores big win in first match of Aussie tour
Noyak Djkovic scored a big win in his first match of the Aussie tour, beating Viktor Troicki 6-7(5), 7-6(7), 6-3 in the opening round of the Australian Open. The Serb was favoured to win, as he is the number one seed for this event. Troicki is ranked fifth in the world and had beaten Djkovic earlier this year. However Djkovic played well in this match, demonstrating his strong court coverage and powerful groundstrokes.
Djkovic also lost his doubles match with fellow Serbian partner, Novak Djokovic. They were beaten by Australians Jack Sock and Jordan Thompson 6-4, 7-6(9). This was a disappointing result for Djokovic who was hoping to get some good preparation ahead of the Australian Open which starts on Monday.
Djkovic set to play doubles with partner Nenad Zimonjic
by HLJ Sport
Noyak Djkovic is set to team up with Nenad Zimonjic for the Australian Open. The Serbian player was a part of the losing finalist in both men's singles and doubles at the event last year, but will be looking to improve on that this time around. Djkovic and his partner lost their opening match against Argentina's Juan Monaco and Pedro Martinez 6-4, 4-6, [10-7].
Djkovic loses first doubles match in Adelaide
Noyak Djkovic lost his first doubles match in Adelaide today, falling to the team of Robert Lindstedt and Horia Tecau. This was Djkovic's first appearance at the Australian Open since he and Novak Djokovic were forced to retire from their quarterfinal match against Roger Federer and Feliciano Lopez due to an ankle injury.
Djkovic got off to a flying start in his partnering with Lindstedt, leading 3-0 after just over 20 minutes of play. However, Tecau and his partner began clawing their way back into the match, eventually knotting the score at 3-3 before the end of the first set.
In the second set, Tecau and Lindstedt continued to play aggressively while Djkovic & Djokovic looked much more tentative. The Serb managed only two points in a row before conceding a game. Lindstedt took control of the match from there, clinching the set 6-4 with a brilliant backhand winner down the line.
It was not enough for Djkovic as he fell short in his maiden appearance at the Australian Open doubles competition.
Djkovic to compete in Brisbane next
Next stop for Serbian superstar Noyak Djkovic is Brisbane, where he will compete in the Brisbane International. Djokovic, who has won 13 ATP titles, is coming off a disappointing loss to Marcel Granollers in the quarterfinals of the Australian Open. Heading into this match, many were predicting that Djkovic would be too strong for Granollers and win in straight sets. Unfortunately for Djkovic, things didn’t go according to plan and he was beaten in three sets. Djkovic commented on his loss saying that it was a physical and mental battle against Granollers. Despite the defeat, Djokovic is still looking forward to playing in Brisbane and competing against some of the best players in the world.
